Filter Papers
Find the correct coffee filter papers for domestic coffee makers, commercial filter machines and manual pour-over brewing. Our range includes basket-shaped filters, cone filter papers and round filter paper discs in a variety of sizes.
Choosing the correct shape and size helps the filter sit securely inside the machine or dripper, supports an even flow of water and prevents coffee grounds from entering the finished drink.
Shop Coffee Filter Papers by Type
- Basket Coffee Filter Papers – suitable for many domestic and commercial basket-filter coffee machines.
- Cone Coffee Filter Papers – available in common sizes for filter coffee machines and pour-over drippers.
- Round Coffee Filter Papers – circular filter papers and discs for compatible coffee makers and brewing equipment.
Coffee Filter Paper Sizes
Coffee filter papers are not universal. Before ordering, check the shape and dimensions required by your coffee machine, filter basket or dripper.
Our cone-shaped filter paper range includes commonly used sizes such as:
- Size 1 and Size 101
- Size 2, also known as 1x2
- Size 3, also known as Size 102
- Size 4, also known as 1x4
- Size 6, also known as 1x6
Basket filter papers are usually identified by measurements such as the base diameter, laid-flat width and side depth. Always compare these measurements with your existing filter or machine basket before purchasing.
White and Natural Brown Coffee Filter Papers
Depending on the product and size, our coffee filter papers may be available in either white or natural brown.
White filter papers have a clean, consistent appearance, while natural brown papers retain their natural paper colour. Both types are designed to provide reliable filtration when the correct filter is selected and used properly.
How to Choose the Correct Coffee Filter Paper
The most important considerations are shape, size, strength, capacity and flow rate.
- Shape: Choose a basket, cone or round filter to match the shape of your machine or brewer.
- Size: Check the manufacturer's recommended size or compare the measurements with your existing filter paper.
- Strength: A suitable filter should remain secure during brewing without tearing or collapsing.
- Capacity: The paper must be large enough for the quantity of ground coffee and water being used.
- Flow rate: The paper should retain coffee grounds while allowing brewed coffee to pass through at an appropriate rate.
How Are Coffee Filter Papers Made?
Coffee filter paper is manufactured from paper fibres formed into a porous sheet. The structure of the paper allows water and brewed coffee to pass through while retaining most coffee grounds and fine particles.
The balance between filtration and flow is important. Paper that is too open may allow excessive sediment through, while paper that is too restrictive may slow the brewing process unnecessarily.
The History of the Paper Coffee Filter
The paper coffee filter is generally credited to Melitta Bentz, who developed her first filter in Germany in 1908. She wanted a cleaner method of brewing coffee that reduced the amount of loose coffee grounds in the cup.
Paper filtration subsequently became one of the most widely used methods for preparing filter coffee in homes, cafés, offices and commercial catering environments.
